History
Brian S. Becker has been practicing law in Connecticut since earning his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1987. Mr. Becker graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Economics and History. Presently, his principal areas of practice include business bankruptcy, and transactional matters in corporate and financial areas.
Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Becker practiced in the areas of business bankruptcy, commercial and corporate law. He has represented: (i) secured creditors, unsecured creditors' committees, and corporate debtors (both privately held and public) in workouts and bankruptcy proceedings; (ii) lending institutions and borrowers in asset-based loan transactions; and (iii) sellers and buyers in sales and acquisitions of businesses.
In 1995 Mr. Becker joined the Law Department at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. He began his career at The Hartford handling mergers and acquisitions and overseeing the legal aspects of the international operations of Hartford Life. Over the years, Mr. Becker rose through the organization and, in 2002, became Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Director of Corporate Law and Corporate Secretary of The Hartford. In that capacity he supervised and assisted in: (i) negotiating and documenting all types of transactions, domestic and international, including acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures; (ii) preparing and filing proxy statements, Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and other filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission; (iii) creating and implementing corporate policies to comply with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002; (iv) keeping corporate records and board minutes; (v) negotiating license, consulting, and other agreements; and (vi) handling other corporate matters as they arose.
Mr. Becker is a member of the American Bar Association (Business Law Section), and a member of the Connecticut Bar Association (Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section).
Mr. Becker also serves as a Director of Foodshare, Inc., a non-profit, regional food bank that distributes food to hundreds of community kitchens, emergency shelters, food pantries, and other anti-hunger programs in Hartford and Tolland counties.
