History
Laura Gold Becker has been practicing law in Connecticut since earning her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1986. Ms. Becker graduated with distinction from Cornell University in 1982, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies. Her principal areas of practice include business bankruptcy, commercial litigation (including business and contract disputes, collections, and foreclosures), construction litigation, creditor's rights, employment, insurance defense litigation (including ERISA), and real estate matters.
Ms. Becker currently serves as foreclosure Committee on behalf of the Hartford Superior Court, and acts as a Fact-Finder, Arbitrator and Mediator in both the Hartford and New Britain Superior Courts. Additionally, she is a panel arbitrator/mediator for the American Dispute Resolution Center.
Prior to becoming a Member of Becker Law Offices, LLC, Ms. Becker was Of-Counsel at Baer Marks & Upham, LLC and a Partner at Winick & Rich, P.C., two New York law firms for which she served as the Connecticut office managing attorney, while maintaining her practice in the areas set forth above.
In the early years of her practice, Ms. Becker also worked for a Chapter 7 trustee for the Hartford panel of bankruptcy trustees. During those years, and for several years thereafter, she represented not only the bankruptcy trustee, but also Chapter 7, 11 and 13 debtors, as well as creditors's committees and secured and unsecured creditors. Today, however, she limits her bankruptcy practice to representing secured and unsecured creditors, and trustees.
Ms. Becker is admitted to practice in all courts in the State of Connecticut, as well as in the following federal courts:
United States District Court for the District of Connecticut United States District Court for the Southern District of New York United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
Ms. Becker is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association (Commercial Law, Litigation, and ADR Sections), the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, and the Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association.
